Dub mistakes

It was an uneventful day for me. I'm still Pokémoning it up (playing Diamond, watching the animé, etc.), so there's really not much to say.

However, while watching the old episodes, I noticed a couple discrepancies that are bugging me. One of them seems to have an explanation, but the other doesn't.

First of all, do you guys remember the 3 episodes where the guy from Pokémon Snap was traveling with Ash and co.? Well, in the video game, his name was Snap. But when I watched those episodes when I was younger, he was called Todd. However, on my DVDs, he's called Snap just like he was supposed to be. According to Dogasu's Backpack, the name Todd was only used in the KidsWB versions of the episodes, but the name Snap was used on the VHS/DVD releases and used in other English speaking countries. So when I was watching those episodes today, my brain was like, "Uhhh...what? I don't remember them calling him Snap!" So anytime his name was said, it bugged me a bit because I still distinctly remembered what it sounded like originally. But I think it's good that his name was what it should've been on the DVDs.

The other discrepancy, which seems like a rather big one to me, has to do with a scene in the Farfetch'd episode. When Team Rocket's boat gets a leak and flips over, they're stuck holding onto the side of the boat while being washed downstream. In the process, their Pokéballs start to get washed away as well. You see 3 Pokéballs, and James says, "My Weezing!" Right after that, Jessie says, "Arbok and Lickitung are floating away!" If you're thinking, "What's wrong?" it's the Lickitung part that's the problem here.

Although it's true that Jessie gets a Lickitung in Kanto, she doesn't capture it until Princess Versus Princess, which is episode 54 in the U.S. airings. The Farfetch'd episode is episode 47 in the U.S. airings, so how could Jessie possibly have a Pokéball for a Pokémon that she won't capture until 7 episodes later? My theory is that the Pokéball actually belonged to James' Weepinbell, but the U.S. viewers didn't have a clue that James had a Weepinbell since the episode he captured it in was banned here, so the dubbers decided to have Jessie say that it was her Lickitung instead. Sure, people would probably overlook this if they were watching reruns on TV, but this sticks out if you're watching the episodes in order.

I'm curious what happened in the Japanese version during this scene, because if the same thing was said, it'd also be a discrepancy in that version as well. Based on the Japanese airings, the Farfetch'd episode is 49, and Princess Versus Princess is episode 52, which is 3 episodes later. I might download the RAW to see what was said, because if the dub was the only one to screw it up, that would be another slipup to pin on them, such as the "death of Brock's mother" who we find out much later on that she isn't actually dead at all. >_>;

EDIT: I just watched the RAW, and I heard Jessie say "Beroringa," which is Lickitung's Japanese name. So apparently this timeline error occured before the episode was even dubbed. Quite interesting, ne?

Avatar 3x12 - The Western Air Temple

So LJ decided to be stupid and just not work for an hour or 2. At least it's back now. *sigh*

Anyways, this is the last week of new episodes of Avatar. Then the series will be done for good. :( But I really didn't care for some of the season 3 episodes though, so maybe it's a good thing. Besides, it's apparent that Nick just didn't care about it anymore considering that the U.K. got some season 3 episodes before us at one point (which was totally random and made NO sense at all), and they up and decided, "Hey! Let's air the remaining episodes in one week without any time for anticipation to build up! :D" >_> I heard they also did this sort of thing with the books and the DVDs too, releasing a DVD that some episodes that are airing this week, and releasing the book based on the finale super early. >_<

Honestly, it was bad enough to see Danny Phantom end in the same manner last summer (except that they had 2 WEEKS worth of episodes to rush through), so it hurts me a little to see Avatar get the same treatment. It was a great series, and it deserved so much more than this. The FANS deserved so much more than this. Many have been so devoted to this series all this time (especially some of the cosplayers: one of whom was a girl that shaved her hair to cosplay as Aang! :O), so to me it feels like the way the series is being rushed through was like a bitchslap in the face to the fandom.

Anyways, I guess I'll talk about the new episode that was on today/yesterday.

Burn Notice 2x01

A very nice start to what should be an awesome second season. Kudos to you BN. *claps*

Wow...it's been far too long since I last did one of my episode rant posts. Thank God I have shows that'll give me things to talk about! But this isn't really much of a rant this time. Most of it is just me listing little tidbits that amused me. But that's still always fun! :D

Psych: OMG!

OH MAN

Once again, Psych has proven itself to be a slash fangirl's dream come true. There was subtext all over the place for at least 4 different, but equally awesome ships. And also there was the delicious het that is Lassiter/Juliet. :)

I'll talk more about this episode in general once I make that jumbo post that will be all about s2, which will hopefully be written a little over 2 weeks from now. (Because that's when s2 will end.)

See ya! ;)

EDIT: This episode was definitely one of the best of s2. So as to avoid spoilers, I'm placing this mini rant under an LJ-cut. I HIGHLY reccommend watching this episode, because it was totally awesome in so many ways. ♥

Ryuusei no Rockman 55

So, this was the finale for the first season of RnR, and next week is the beginning of Ryuusei no Rockman Tribe (which is based off of the RnR 2 video game that'll be coming out in Japan a few weeks after Tribe premieres). Anyways, the finale had a few squee-worthy moments, so here I am making this post!
